Why Patreon?

Like many creators I’ve had trouble stitching together a steady income from my work. Currently, I take on occasional freelance to make ends meet. However, long-form storytelling is what I love to do, and with the help of my patrons I can focus on the big projects closest to my heart and and get them out in the world as soon as humanly possible.

Just as importantly, Patreon allows me to connect with my most ardent fans and get to know them on a more personal level. My patrons see my new work first—sometimes months years before it is available publicly—and become a part of the process by giving me much-appreciated feedback.

In addition to finished pages, patrons get to see the behind-the-scenes part of my process as I share with them my sources of inspiration, my day-to-day life as a full-time cartoonist, and my pencils, inks and other in-process steps to making finished work.

How Does Patreon Work?

Patreon is an like an ongoing Kickstarter campaign with one key difference: rather than getting paid once off, per project, artists or creators are paid by their patrons to continue creating on an ongoing basis.

The way I have my Patreon set up you would be charged once per month. Access to my blog posts, with all my comics and behind-the-scenes explainers, starts at $3 a month, with $5 Patreons getting an additional once-per-month PDF, $10 Patreons getting digital PDFs... and so on.

These small contributions add up in a big way and really help me out. They also have the additional benefit of going directly to me, instead of some middleman like Amazon.

What I'm Working On Now:

I'm currently serializing my new graphic novel, An Embarrassment of Witches, coming out from Top Shelf Productions in Winter 2019. This graphic novel is my second collaboration with Jenn Jordan, my writing partner on Darwin Carmichael is Going to Hell.

Each new page posted also includes the thumb-nailed script, pencils and inks so my patrons can see the entire creative process from stem to stern.

New pages are posted every Tuesday and Friday.

Access to finished An Embarrassment of Witches pages starts at the $3 level, with $5+ Patreons getting easy-to-read monthly PDFs collecting all the finished pages and process art from the previous month, plus some exclusive behind-the-scenes notes.
